Orissa has initiated e-Pragati, a project that would connect even the remotest Anganwadi workers in the state and publish information on their work profiles and children under their care. The venture will complement the existing e-Shishu plan that cyber connects lakhs of children in state.

IIT-Powai based Webaroo has launched SMS GupShup, a free group messaging service in India, which will enable mobile users to create their own groups and start blogging. The convergence of internet technology with the mobile is now closer than before to the common user and will enable greater communication.

The UN Security Council's counter-terrorism directorate has launched an online database to help countries to develop their own counter-terrorism programmes. UN also hopes to help countries in drafting terrorism-related legislation, financial law and practice regulations, training for personnel and enhancing law regulations.

Villages in Kerala will soon find a place in the cyber world through a state government project, Akshaya, that provides custom-made web portals for all communities in their local language (Malayalam). GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) phones were launched by Nokia in Delhi India. This move was inspired by efforts of the Indian government and mobile service operators to bring low-cost mobile telephony to the grassroots and unreached, where users may not be able to afford a personal phone. In many villages, local entrepreneurs have already emerged to offer this service.

Community radio is now a part of the lives of the people in Mangochi District, Malawi, in southeastern Africa. UNESCO supported Dzimwe Community Radio station is a boon for the locals who cannot read and write. High temperatures between 35-40° C and constant power failures are not enough to discourage the dedicated announcers keen on serving their community.
