27.12.2004 FAO and UNICEF commissioned a study to assess the feasibility of building a network to connect some 20 radio stations in the rural areas of Niger and finally link the network to internet. The need to conduct a technology assessment for selecting the appropriate media for creating the network has been emphasised.

16.12.2004 World Health Organisation has opened an emergency response centre to assist member states to cope with epidemic crises that can become pandemic. Member states can communicate with each other and the WHO headquarters using this facility during outbreaks of epidemic diseases such as bird flu and SARS.
