28.05.2007 India's Information and Technology Department will provide computer training to children belonging to socially deprived and minority groups. The first initiative has been taken by the city of Chandigarh in association with United Progressive Muslim Front to teach a basic course to the students of Manimajra Madarsa.

10.05.2007 Panos South Asia (PSA) is organising a 5-day South Asian regional 'Online Radio Broadcasting Training Workshop' for media and other communication practitioners, from 19-23 June 2007 at its Media Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal. The workshop aims to leverage the benefits that internet offers to radio and the ways of incorporating it into existing media strategies.

10.05.2007 Teachers from the National Institute for Disabled (NID), Khaling and Drukgyel Higher Secondary School have tied up with Media LT, an NGO spearheading ICT access for the visually impaired in Bhutan. The purpose of the training is to enhance their quality of work through Internet access and computer applications.

09.05.2007 May 17 marks the inception of Information and Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN agency that works to develop telecommunications networks and services to bridge the digital divide. Following the World Summit on the Information Society, the UN has now declared the same date as World Information Society Day.

08.05.2007 Leading processor-maker Intel will soon introduce 'Classmate', a portable computer for children in India. Its pilot project at Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad, near New Delhi is a joint venture with the state education department to introduce interactive education in the classroom. Intel driven Classmate PCs are already being shipped to other developing countries such as Brazil and Mexico.

02.05.2007 Community radio is now a part of the lives of the people in Mangochi District, Malawi, in southeastern Africa. UNESCO supported Dzimwe Community Radio station is a boon for the locals who cannot read and write. High temperatures between 35-40° C and constant power failures are not enough to discourage the dedicated announcers keen on serving their community.
