The first version of OpenOffice.org in Swahili, the language of at least 70 million Africans, has been released. Developers said they overcame several translation and infrastructure difficulties to come up with Jambo OpenOffice.org 1.1.3.

More than 600 delegates have turned up at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) conference held in Cape Town. The meeting seeks to strengthen partnerships between Internet stakeholders in Africa and is discussing internet governance issues.

A study commissioned by the government of the United Kingdom has ranked the country third in the world in use of information and communication technologies. According to the report, 69 per cent of companies in the United Kingdom use broadband and 30 per cent of micro businesses trade online.
