Over 18000 participants attend the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis. Presidents, prime ministers, ministers as well as representatives of the development, civic and private sector were among the participants. Overcoming social barriers and geographical divides, a grassroots worker from India, Latha Gauri, has succeeded in creating a space for the concerns of the common people at the Second World Summit on Information Society (WSIS). The WSIS process, currently in progression at Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia in Africa seeks to create an Information Society which is accessible to all and based on shared knowledge.

On the afternoon of Friday, November 18, 2005, one of three stakeholders taking part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) drew a line in the sand. Civil society (CS) representatives from all continents lined up on a panel to deliver a stark closing statement. At the same time, International Telecommunications Union UN-o-crats drew conclusions of their own a couple of hundred meters away in the plenary room.

Prvi dan sam bila očajna traeći ene po prostoru uz toliko nadmoćnu prisutnost mukaraca, posebno onih uniformiranih i naoruanih. No, kad sam malo pogledala uokolo, vidjela sam (osim participanata) preteno ene u ruičastom koje rade kao čistačice i hodaju okolo vukući vreće sa smećem.

Maduna e ucesnik na rabotilnicata koja ja organizira HIVOS, nerecena "Izrazuvanje pod reprasija", koja se odrza deneska. Kako sto izjavuva, nego ne go interesira sto imaat da kazat vladite prisutni na WSIS, koi idat i nametnuivaat uslovi za koi ne moza da se pregovara, tuku go interesiraat ucesnicite od gragjanskite organizascii od cel svet i razmenata na idei.

In the last week of October and the first week of November of this year, an international conference on E-Society was held in Skopje, organized by Metamorphosis Foundation. Roberto Belicanec, the Executive Director of the Media Development Centre, presented his views on freedom of expression on the internet.

Wednesday afternoon, November 17, the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) invited the press and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for what was to become a marathon of explicit talks challenging the Tunisian government on its human rights record. While heads of states speeches present at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) were pouring in on all TV channels, revolution was just around the corner in another district of Tunis. A prototype of a $100 wind-up laptop is being presented at the World Summit on the Information Society this week. Governments, the U.N., and private companies have expressed interest in making sure the low-cost computers become available across the globe to all students--even in the poorest and most remote places.

APC je u procesima internet upravljanja učestvovao isključivo na Svjetskom samitu o informatičkom drutvu. Izvan ovog učeća, a u saradnji sa ostalim partnerima, uključujući članove WSIS internet upravljanja u civilnom drutvu, APC je kristalizovao set preporuka upućenih liderima Samita u Tunisu.
