In a major relief to mobile operators, the Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has excluded many revenue streams, including income from the sale of mobile handsets on a standalone basis, while calculating annual gross revenue (AGR).

German's LEFT-WING members of the ruling coalition have objected strongly to plans by the German interior ministry to enlist email spy software to monitor terror suspects.A ministry spokesman confirmed that the proposed plank of new anti-terror legislation vetted the use of "Trojans" which smuggle themselves into a suspect's computer disguised as a harmless email.

The Commission has adopted a proposal to select systems for mobile satellite services at European level. If adopted by the European Parliament and the EU Council of Telecom Ministers, this new selection mechanism will allow innovative services, such as mobile TV, broadband data and emergency communications to develop smoothly throughout Europe as of 2009.

Indian Health Ministry along with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, proposes to classify TV broadcast of smoking scenes under category 'A' and also plans to restrict TV channels from portraying women as passive or submissive so as not to glorify their subordinate or secondary role in the society.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is calling on the Tajik President to veto amendments passed by Parliament on 19 July that would include Internet publications in the country's defamation laws. The amendments would criminalise defamatory statements published on websites, on top of those made in print and broadcast media.

On a series of Sanglap (Dialogue), a ground-breaking discussion programme in Bangladesh, the BBC World Service Trust has launched the third programme in the series in the run up to the general elections in Bangladesh. Elections will take place towards the end of 2008 and the BBC programme gives the people an opportunity to engage in a direct dialogue with their political leaders.
