After some welcoming remarks, Chairman Yuri G. Grin briefly presented the role of the ITU Council WG on WSIS, mandated to make proposals to the Plenipotentiary Conference on the ITU inputs to the WSIS process. He also asserted that the work of the ITU is strongly rooted in a spirit of multi-stakeholder partnership, gathering 189 member states, but also private companies, academic institutions and some NGOs. Informal Consultations on the WSIS Implementation Mechanism will take place just ahead of the 8th meeting of the ITU Council Working Group on the World Summit on the Information Society (WG-WSIS) on 3-4 May, the outcomes of the discussion will be reported directly to the ITU WG-WSIS.
