The Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme have joined hands to impart new technology skills to the unemployed youth and generate employment. The SKILLS projects new portal will be accessible by all stakeholders of the vocational training network.

UNESCO staff from the region had a chance to get a more in-depth briefing and hands-on experience on the development and implementation of managing information systems in the non-formal education sector through a workshop organized by UNESCOs Section for Literacy and Non-Formal Education, and UNESCO Bangkoks AIMS and APPEAL Units.

Mandla Njokwane, once a street kid and now a tutor at the Youth Development Trust centre in Johannesburg, was awarded the youth innovation award at the annual African ICT Achievers awards. Njokwane, who grew up in Thokoza on the East Rand, was awarded an offer to pursue IT studies at Thutong Training Institute For Communication and IT as part of his prize.
