22.10.2007 The Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme have joined hands to impart new technology skills to the unemployed youth and generate employment. The SKILLS project’s new portal will be accessible by all stakeholders of the vocational training network.

16.02.2006 UNESCO staff from the region had a chance to get a more in-depth briefing and hands-on experience on the development and implementation of managing information systems in the non-formal education sector through a workshop organized by UNESCO’s Section for Literacy and Non-Formal Education, and UNESCO Bangkok’s AIMS and APPEAL Units.

17.11.2003 Mandla Njokwane, once a street kid and now a tutor at the Youth Development Trust centre in Johannesburg, was awarded the youth innovation award at the annual African ICT Achievers awards. Njokwane, who grew up in Thokoza on the East Rand, was awarded an offer to pursue IT studies at Thutong Training Institute For Communication and IT as part of his prize.

05.09.2003 Earshot is offering a free course for unemployed people aged 16-26 in the UK, in which they will learn how to make and present professional radio programmes and gain general media skills. The aim is to raise their employment prospects by improving their ICT, teamwork, time and project-management, research, marketing and general workplace skills.

04.09.2003 The online newspaper Reznet not only helps more American Indian students get a taste of the journalism field, but it is also a gathering place for Indian youth on the Internet. The Website has provided young Native Americans a new voice – literally – by broadcasting a weekly audio news show.

04.09.2003 About 200 students successfully completed intensive computer training in Cameroon during their summer holidays. The Institute Africain D'informatique in Yaounde offered the course – which focussed on the Internet mechanism and word processing skills – to the students on a token monthly fee.

03.09.2003 Act Now! is a newly launched Website for Spanish-speaking Latin American youth. The site allows young adults to express themselves online even as they learn about subjects as diverse as health, democracy, environment, drugs, vocational training and life skills.

25.08.2003 Can ICTs make a difference to development and education? Are they a wise investment? Are they integrated into the education system or simply added extras? Do ICTs actually bridge gaps or are they creating new ones? Deepalaya is an Indian NGO whose mission is to promote the overall development of unprivileged communities, with a particular focus on education. Deepalaya. They offer computer classes to their students, starting at the age of 10 (6th grade). Computer training is also included in their vocational programme.

14.07.2003 The Commonwealth Service Abroad Programme (CSAP) has started a project with its partners to enhance the business prospects of women entrepreneurs in Cameroon through the use of ICTs. To be held in three phases, the project will focus on transferring technology in the areas of portal design and development, Website design and development as well as e-commerce training.

29.06.2003 Eleven countries from Southern Europe are currently participating in a project on ICTs for the development of education and the construction of a knowledge society. The project, which got underway earlier this year, includes activities like seminars and expert meetings on topics such as ICT application in distance education, IT training and multimedia courses.

04.06.2003 Centre for IT Services (C-IT) has set up a number of computer training centres across India's southern state of Kerala. Each of the centres has its own teaching methods and syllabi. Besides other value additions, C-IT is also planning to network these centres and provide updated courseware.

03.06.2003 The One Minutes Jr. is organising its second workshop for young people between the ages of 12-20 from the CIS countries. The four-day workshop provides hands-on training on how to produce their own video messages, use storyboards and gives advice on shooting and editing.

04.05.2003 Praxis India, an NGO promoting participatory practices, is using video in training situations and developing footages on the various themes of 'participation'. It is helping communities, including children, to produce their own video on themes related to their ideas and experiences.

01.05.2003 A six-week IT training programme in Pittsburgh, PA in the United States has helped 30 girl students at a local elementary school to learn basic computer skills. The training has developed the students' interest in technology and they have used their new skills to complete various community service projects.

28.04.2003 The African programme of the Digital Diaspora Initiative will be launched in Uganda's capital Kampala next week. The initiative was set up in January 2002 to build strategic partnerships between African IT entrepreneurs in the Diaspora and women's organisations and business associations in Africa.

27.04.2003 The Pan-American Health Organisation, together with 14 academic institutions in the Americas and Spain, has launched a virtual public health campus as a tool to provide continuing education to public health personnel in the Americas. The campus is a virtual community offering communication exchanges to generate useful knowledge, training and debate between health professionals and institutions.
