According to reports by the World Bank, a number of countries in Africa have a low research and the trend was attributable to the minimal number of scientists and engineers. The reports recommended the attention on the development of scientific and industrial research base in the continent for significant progress in developing high-tech products export industry.

Internet and IT law expert of Thailand condemned the government for illegally blocking of websites and the use of threats and intimidation tactics against webmasters by government officials. As per the law the Communications Technology Ministry should seek court orders for banning websites.

The first conference on the use of Web 2.0 for rural development and natural resource management will take place from 25-27 September in Rome. 40 speakers have been selected from organisations with various backgrounds from North and South, among them the representatives will be from IBM, Oxfam and UNESCO.
