An NGO in Philippines is developing an e-learning course that it hopes will train more than 70,000 school dropouts by 2005. With second-hand PCs from the US and Germany, the group will hand out diplomas that will help learners move on to colleges and vocational courses.

A survey has indicated that South Africas previously disadvantaged people, many of them women, have benefited the most from its fast growing call-centre industry. Almost two-thirds of positions in 14 call centres of Western Cape are being held by these communities, with many even occupying managerial roles.

India's space research agency is open to running a manned space mission if there is a consensus on its need. The chairperson of Indian Space Research Organisation has said that technologies are being identified for the mission that may take seven to eight years to build.

The European Commission has warned that electronic waste is growing three times faster than municipal garbage and asked member states to put in place strict recycling practices. The Commission has observed that Greece is the only member to enforce its directives on e-waste.
