09.01.2007 Washington, D.C., December 11, 2006 – Tumaini Letu (Our Hope), a film about three women caring for children orphaned by AIDS, was named Best Short Documentary at the 2006 New York AIDS Film Festival. Produced by the Academy for Educational Development (AED), the festival aims to utilize visual media to prompt social action in the fight against AIDS.

08.01.2007 OneWorld South Asia held a five-day training programme for young people on computer applications and its effective usage in advocacy and communications at the rural level. The capacity building programme was held for the field functionaries of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), which is a body of Indian youth, at New Delhi from 18 – 22 December 2006.

08.01.2007 UNDP-APDIP releases a study of pro-poor e-governance projects in India Information and Communications Technology for Governance and Poverty Reduction - A Study of Rural Development Projects in India that analyses 18 projects in the country which use ICTs for the benefit of the poor. The idea behind the research was to determine which projects can be scaled up.

20.12.2006 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), IBM and Oracle today announced a joint research initiative to help Asia-Pacific countries share and create strategies, blueprints and policies for adopting the right blend of open standards and technology services. The goal will be for more countries to develop universally compatible applications and networks to make internal and external government services and transactions more automatic, affordable and efficient.

Indian farmers burn genetically modified crop
19.12.2006 Farmers in Raigad district, in the west Indian state of Maharashtra, use satellite imagery to prove that their lands are fertile, thus thwarting the government's move to acquire their lands for the development of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at cheap rates by claiming it was not productive land.

15.12.2006 A growing number of journalists are being imprisoned around the world for publishing their work on the Internet, with one in three cases made up of individuals whose work appeared primarily on the web or by e-mail, a new report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has found.
