Per dire no agli Accordi di Partenariato Economico (APE o EPA) oggi in Italia la Campagna "L'Africa non è in vendita!"* ha tenuto tre azioni parallele di fronte all'ambasciata tedesca a Roma ed ai consolati di Napoli e Milano. Sullo sfondo del rumore comune alle altre piazze, è stata inscenata una vendita di pezzi di Africa tramite la firma di un "Contratto di svendita" tra i singoli cittadini acquirenti e il rappresentante della Ue, il commissario al commercio Peter Mandelson. L'Europa, infatti, sta negoziando con molta discrezione con 77 sue ex colonie di Africa, Caraibi e Pacifico degli accordi commerciali che vogliono aprire ai nostri prodotti la maggior parte dei mercati di questi Paesi, in particolare agricoli e industriali, senza tener conto delle conseguenze per lo più negative di tali provvedimenti. Gli APE erano nati come accordi di cooperazione, ma i Paesi ricchi, primi fra tutti quelli dell'Unione europea, si ostinano a pensare che la priorità dell'Africa stia nell'integrazione nei mercati globali, nonostante gli evidenti fallimenti delle politiche di libero commercio nel portare un accresciuto benessere in ogni contesto e per tutte le fasce della popolazione.

Äärimmäisessä köyhyydessä elävien määrä putosi vuodesta 1990 noin viidenneksellä vuoteen 2004 mennessä, ja alle dollarilla elää nykyisin noin 985 miljoonaa ihmistä. Maailmanpankin raportti muistuttaa kuitenkin, että lähes puolet kehitysmaiden väestöstä - noin 2,6 miljardia ihmistä - eli vuonna 2004 alle kahdella dollarilla päivässä.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that if the United Nations can make its operations more streamlined and efficient in the fields of development, humanitarian assistance and environment it will benefit both developed and developing nations. He added that this is important for fulfilling the MDG goals.

This year the European Union will spend more than 35 percent of its 115 billion euro (156 billion dollars) budget on supporting farmers, even though agriculture accounts for less than 5 percent of the EU workforce.With such a disproportionate focus on farming, does the Union have any moral authority to demand liberalisation of the food trade in poor countries, where often 70 percent of people rely on agriculture to make a living?
