29.07.2005 Telesur is the name of the new Latin American satellite television station which went on the air on Sunday 24 July, but opponents of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez have already dubbed it 'Telechávez'. They're predicting that the president will use the station to promote his own ideas and as a propaganda tool to advance his 'Bolivarian revolution'.

18.07.2005 The body of Haitian journalist Jacques Roche was found in the capital, Port-au-Prince. The cultural editor with the daily Le Matin, he was kidnapped July 10. Roche, who also hosted a local television station show, was taken from his car in the Port-au-Prince neighborhood of Nazon, the Haitian press reported. His captors demanded US$250,000 in ransom. Haiti's capital has been plagued by a wave of violence and abductions.
