To bring children with special needs into the general education system, Delhi-based NGO Deepalaya with support from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has set up a computer training centre at one of its schools in the capital. The idea is to make these differently-abled children self-reliant.

Last week policymakers from South Asia gathered at Bangladeshi capital to discuss social protection strategies for children on health and basic education. Government representatives, international NGOs, researchers and experts shared initiatives and identified methods to secure the future of children.

Animal Angels Foundation, a Pune-based NGO in western India, works on the unique concept of using pets to bring about emotional stimulation among autistic children. This form of therapy has just begun to take roots and may eventually become part of mainstream healing procedures.

Traditional game of snake and ladder is being used in a novel way for disaster preparedness. As part of a wider national disaster awareness effort, the Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre and UNDP are training school children about how to face floods, land slides, lightning, etc. and lessen their adverse effects.

Kehidupan korban pelanggaran HAM pun sangat memprihatinkan. Mereka pun rata-rata bekerja sebagai buruh. Saat ini masih banyak anak-anak dari korban pelanggaran HAM yang putus sekolah karena penghasilan orangtuanya sebagai buruh tidak mencukupi. Karena itu, anak-anak mereka berhak atas pendidikan yang layak, kesehatan, tempat tinggal yang layak, yang semuanya harus diberikan pemerintah secara gratis.

Etelä-Sudanin koulujen penkeille odotetaan tänä vuonna 1,3 miljoonaa lasta, kun vuonna 2005 vastaava luku oli 340 000. Sisällissodasta pitkään kärsineen maan koulutustilanne paranee muun muassa YK:n tukeman Go to School -aloitteen ansiosta, joka polkaistiin käyntiin vuonna 2006.

Rising food prices are forcing parents to marry off their daughters at a tender age in lieu of money in northern Afghanistan. Such child marriages will end only when the region gets sufficient investments to reduce poverty and adequate food supplies.

GKJM Yogyakarta tolak Raperda tentang Penanganan Gelandangan, Pengemis dan Perlindungan Anak. Menurut GKJM Raperda tersebut merupakan suatu rancangan produk hukum yang diskriminatif. Dalam sebuah diskusi di Warung Daun Cikini beberapa waktu lalu oleh ICW, Sudaryatmo dari YLKI mengungkapkan, kontroversi seputar Enterobacteri Sakazaki seharusnya tidak perlu terjadi apabila semua informasi seputar proses pemberian registrasi dan juga hasil dari reguler inspection yang dilakukan oleh BP POM bisa diakses oleh publik. Sudah waktunya BP POM tidak memonopoli informasi yang berkaitan dengan proses pemberian registrasi dan proses pelaksanaan berikut hasil dari reguler inspection.

Dari Sabang Sampai Merauke Rakyat Indonesia Mati Kelaparan. Mungkin begitulah lagu yang bisa kita nyanyikan sekarang. Betapa tidak, mulai dari Sabang sampai Marauke banyak anak-anak yang meninggal karena kurang gizi dan kelaparan. Ironisnya, sikap sebagian elit pemerintah/politikus menutup mata seperti menyatakan bahwa Indonesia sudah tidak masuk negara miskin lagi karena pendapatan per kapita sebesar US$ 2.000/tahun sangat menyesatkan.

KPAI mendesak Menteri Kesehatan dan Badan Pengawasan Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) untuk segera mengusut tuntas kasus tercemarnya susu formula oleh bakteri Enterobacter Sakazakii agar masyarakat tidak resah. KPAI juga meminta BPOM segera mengumumkan hasil penelitiannya, dan mengumumkan nama-nama merek susu yang tercemar serta perintah penarikan produk susu tersebut dari peredaran.
