26.11.2004 The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), planned for Tunis late next year, could turn out to be the most disappointing of all United Nations global events in recent years, warned the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) this week. Governments must stop backsliding on their promises to help out poorer nations and must defend fundamental rights, the IFJ told delegates to a major media conference in Marrakech, Morocco.

24.11.2004 Con l'insediamento della nuova Commissione europea riprende la mobilitazione perchè non dia via libera alla brevettabilità del software. Sottoposto a forti pressioni da parte dei colossi informatici americani, l'Ufficio europeo dei brevetti (Epo) ha già espresso parere favorevole, nonostante la contrarietà dell'Europarlamento e delle piccole e medie aziende continentali. Continua intanto la battaglia della Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) per evitare che, dopo gli accordo della Microsoft con Sun ed ora con la Novell e Ccia, la multinazionale metta a tacere le cause antitrust nei suoi riguardi. E sempre la FSFE esprime dure critiche all'intervento di Bill Gates al Futurshow 3004.

The announcement comes amidst a news blackout that is preventing the world from seeing the true story about human rights atrocities in Sudan.

23.11.2004 In the next month, the Youth Information Agency plans to open the first youth information desk fully compliant with the European standards. The first desk will be opened in Zenica, to be followed by seven more desks in other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 17.11.2004 The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, commonly referred to as AIPPA, was passed by the Parliament of Zimbabwe on 31 January 2002 and signed into law by President Mugabe on 15 March 2002. It may accurately be described as the leading weapon of the government and the ruling ZANU PF party in their ongoing campaign to stifle independent media reporting in Zimbabwe.

17.11.2004 "Colpirne cento per educarne uno": è questa la nuova filosofia del diritto in rete praticata dalle istituzioni che chiudono un occhio sulle transazioni elettroniche dei paradisi fiscali, sul commercio online di armi e munizioni, sulla pornografia elettronica che arricchisce le compagnie telefoniche ma si dimostrano al tempo stesso severissime e rigorose verso i siti di "movimento" e i network internazionali di controinformazione. Giovedi' 7 Ottobre 2004, alle 18 circa, agenti dell'FBI si sono presentati presso la sede americana di Rackspace, presso la cui sede inglese risiedono i server che ospitano molti siti locali di indymedia per sequestrare due computer e due dischi, con una operazione che ha portato all'oscuramento dell'edizione italiana e di molti altri siti del network Indymedia.
