Taking the world wide web to the rural masses, the Haryana government is setting up 'e-Chaupals' (cybercafes) in 150 villages of Sirsa district. The e-chaupals would initially be set up in villages with populations of 5,000 under the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY) for the eighth lakh people that reside in 323 villages of Sirsa district.

New York, December 12, 2005 - The Committee to Protect Journalists is outraged that two more journalists have been jailed on criminal charges that have been revived since a crackdown on the press in November. The convictions last week relating to articles published up to seven years ago bring the number of journalists now behind bars in Ethiopia to at least 15, according to CPJ research.

Drago Hedl, caporedattore del settimanale di Spalato "Feral Tribune" e corrispondente dell'Osservatorio sui Balcani č stato minacciato di morte per i suoi articoli sulle torture e gli assassini di civili serbi a Osijek nel 1991. Martedģ 6 dicembre, nella sua cassetta della posta, Hedl ha trovato una lettera con un messaggio composto con lettere ritagliate da un giornale, dove si affermava: "Ammazzeremo te e il tuo Levar". Anche l'indirizzo sulla busta era ricavato da lettere ritagliate da titoli di giornali, e stando al timbro postale la lettera di minaccia č stata spedita il 5 dicembre dalla cittą di Osijek. Una storia inquietante all'indomani dellarresto di Ante Gotovina: in diversi articoli Hedl ha raccontato i crimini commessi contro civili serbi a Osijek e Vukovar.

Ogni giorno che passa cresce la domanda proveniente dalla societą civile di uninformazione vera e credibile. Per questo, la Tavola della pace, il Coordinamento nazionale degli Enti Locali per la pace e i diritti umani, la Federazione nazionale Stampa Italiana e lUsigrai Sindacato Giornalisti Rai hanno deciso di organizzare una Giornata nazionale dedicata alla promozione di uninformazione e comunicazione di pace. Liniziativa nasce da un ampio confronto fra operatori di pace e operatori dellinformazione che si č sviluppato alla vigilia della marcia per la pace Perugia-Assisi dello scorso 11 settembre. Enti Locali, scuole e organizzazioni della societą civile saranno invitati a promuovere iniziative di riflessione e mobilitazione sui problemi dellinformazione e della comunicazione di pace.
