Educomp Solutions Ltd launched smart class programme .These digital classrooms are controlled by a knowledge centre set up in the school premises, which would serve as a repository of content. With a storage capacity of almost 106 gbs, the server will route the desired content to the respective classrooms through a campus-wide cable network. The teachers can use digital resources like graphics, animations, 3-D images and video clips extensively.

It is time to face up to the fact that achievement of the MDGs can only result if gender equality is achieved. In India, several years of persistent efforts by various stakeholders has failed to yield appreciable results in any area of women’s lives. Data shows that discrimination against women remains the reality in different aspects of women’s lives – and even progress in the limited indicators in the MDGs reflect these disparities. What is the road ahead?

When noted social activist Anna Hazrae came visiting to Agra for inaugurating the Fifth Annual Regional meeting of OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) on 23- 24 January, 250 strong audience from the South Asian region at the Jaypee hotel couldn’t contain their excitement. As they say this grand old man of India rarely comes visiting. And when he speaks he has a plethora of issues to address to. OWSA’s Annual Regional meeting gave him such a platform where he applauded OWSA’s initiative of bringing people’s voices from the South Asian Region.

Quality of education, quotas for weaker communities and illogical college fees were debated at a session on `Access and social justice in higher education' held as part of the International Education Meet (IEM). P.V. Indiresan, former director, Indian Institute of Technology-Chennai, said that in his long innings at that institution, where some of the best young brains in the country enrolled, he could not find any correlation between caste and genius.

La sixième édition du Forum Social Mondial (FSM) a déjà commencé. La lancée s'est donnée à Bamako, au Mali, le 19 janvier. Cette fois-ci, le FSM est polycentrique et décentralisé, et il sera effectué dans trois villes de différents continents : Bamako (Mali/Afrique), Caracas (Vénézuéla/Amériques) et Karachi (Pakistan/Asie).
