Milorad M. Mirovic, penzionisani radnik spuskog KP doma i Jovanovicev tjelohranitelj, nije povrijedjen.

Why are our national papers so scared of NDP ideas? If you're looking for the resurgent party's big platform announcement in today's Globe and Mail, you'll find it. Eventually. It's just buried on page A4 - ten paragraphs into a below-the-fold article. Maisonneuve's MediaScout scans today's papers.

Anybody who has watched an X-wing fighter explode in a luminous fireball in the vacuum of space knows that Hollywood is fast and loose with science. But if Hollywood has an iconic specialty, it's aiming the spotlight. And if the climate-change disaster film, The Day After Tomorrow, makes more people think about and act upon the real dangers of global warming, we'll give it two thumbs up.

Paul Martin has one campaign plank in this Canadian federal election: He isn't Stephen Harper. Martin says he is the peace candidate, while the Tory leader is the war candidate. He says Harper is a threat to public health care, while Martin's Liberals are medicare's saviour. More remarkably still, he is saying this with a straight face.

In John Duffy's indispensable history of Canadian elections, a "great" election is defined by three traits: (a) it could swing either way between strong competitors; (b) it should resolve some "nation-shaking" question; and (c) it should represent an evolution in our electoral process toward greater democracy. Will Election 2004 fit Duffy's bill for a great one?

Canadian election law controls the cost of running for office by constraining candidates and parties to spending limits. But these limits become meaningless when election messages can simply be delivered through third parties - sponsored by corporations, unions or other groups. Tuesday's Supreme Court decision upholding Canada's third-party advertising limits will help stop the wealthiest special interests from dominating political debate.
