An international conference in Morocco will examine the recommendations on the role of media in information societies made during the first phase of WSIS. Representatives from the media will gather in Marrakech from November 22 to 24, 2004 and discuss how to implement the recommendations especially in the contexts of Africa and the Arab nations.

Reporter senza frontiere condanna fermamente la decisione presa dalle autoritŕ algerine di " sospendere provvisoriamente " le attivitŕ della rete satellitare araba Al-Jazira in Algeria e chiede che questa misura sia eliminata immediatamente e senza condizioni. Il ministero della Cultura e della Comunicazione ha informato, il 30 giugno 2004, Mohamed Daho, corrispondente della rete Al-Jazira ad Algeri, che le attivitŕ della televisione satellitare erano sospese " fino a nuovo ordine ". Il motivo ufficiale sarebbe la riorganizzazione in corso d’opera dei corrispondenti esteri. In questo caso, Reporter senza frontiere si stupisce che questa " riorganizzazione in corso d’opera " riguardi unicamente la rete Al-Jazira.

Zimbabwe's independent Tribune weekly has lost its court bid to return to the newsstands, a month after it became the third newspaper to be shut down in a year. Justice Tendai Uchena of the Harare High Court ruled that the Tribune had committed irregularities and that the official media commission was entitled to revoke its licence.

Roland Emmerich, Director of The Day after Tomorrow, has personally financed a Future Forests project to neutralise the carbon emissions generated by production of the film. The Producer and lead actor are also working with Future Forests, providing further evidence for activists that the film has potential beyond entertainment.

The Croatian Journalists’ Association (HND) expressed its worries over the suspended prison sentence for Ljubica Letinic, Croatian Radio reporter. Letinic was sentenced on the slender and libel lawsuit by the Municipal Court in Split.

Ambassador Pascal Fieschi, the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo yesterday opened the first multi-ethnic private television station in Kosovo, in the municipality of Shtërpce/Strpce. The station, TV Herc, brings together Kosovo Serbs and Kosovo Albanians in a joint editorial team.
