Controversy rages in the labour movement as Canadian Labour Congress president Ken Georgetti tries to explain media reports that he now supports free trade. Georgetti insists CLC policy is to continue to oppose NAFTA and other similar trade deals. But a CLC position paper on the subject says free trade is not the "economic disaster" once predicted.

The survey was conducted by IREX, non-profit NGO for professionalization and development of the media.

Koha Ditore journalist Fatmire Terdevci was injured in a drive-by-shooting incident in the Bajica-Domanek road, in the vicinity of the municipality of Gllogovc. She was travelling along with her brother and a Suisse Caritas official. The motive of the incident is not reported and no individual is arrested yet in relation with the case.

Darko Gunjic, DJ and Talk-Show host at the Banja Luka based BIG Radio, was attacked and beaten up by three unindentified assailants on Wednesday night. The attack took place in front of Gunhic’s home in the Nova Varos quarters of Banja Luka, around 23:00 hours.

Reporters Without Borders has reiterated its call for the release of two French journalists who were kidnapped in Iraq with their Syrian guide a month ago. The group is concerned about a recent statement posted on the website of the Islamic Army of Iraq that the journalists will be put on trial.

When Kenneth Banya heard the voices of his former rebel colleagues on the radio calling for an end to Uganda's 18-year civil war, he knew it was time to surrender. "I wanted to go straight home the first time I heard them," Mr. Banya, a former commander in the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), says in a cramped radio studio before going on the air to persuade other members of the rebel group to lay down their arms. "I knew it was safe after hearing them."
