Charkha Development Communication Network has announced that it will award the best articles that bring to light community efforts to rebuild lives following the 8th October earthquake in Kashmir. This initiative is under the Sanjoy Ghose Humanitarian Award for Story Writing 2005-06 and is only applicable to residents from the state.

The citizens of Macedonia dont trust the media, shows the latest Early Warning Report prepared by the UNDP Office to Macedonia. According to the EWR, two thirds of the polled citizens dont trust the media or the contents they publish.

Al Gore's new TV venture seeks to redefine mainstream news and entertainment for the 18-34 demographic. Launched in August, the commercial enterprise relies on young and emerging media makers for 30% of its content and, while initial response has been positive, some are worried the for-profit, socially aware outlet could undermine public access and narrow diversity.

The Guardian newspaper highlights life in pictures from coastal Sri Lanka and India one year after the tsunami. The pictures were taken by photographer Tim Hetherington and will be displayed at an exhibition - Every Time I See the Sea: Life After the Tsunami - all over the UK begining December 9, 2005.

Media association Reporters Without Borders has voiced concern about the fate of Hayatullah Khan, a reporter for the Urdu-language daily Ausaf and photographer for the European Press Photo Agency (EPA), who was kidnapped by gunmen in Mir Ali in the Tribal Zones of Pakistan, adjoining Afghanistan. His disappearance came a day after a journalist was killed in Darra Adamkhel, in another part of the tribal region.

The Centre for Policy Alternatives of Sri Lanka and the International Media Support of Denmark have together published a report on the Sri Lankan media, excluding the North and East, in order to identify capacity and constraints faced by Sri Lankan mainstream and regional media, in the creation and consolidation of democratic laws and practices, and a culture of tolerance and diversity. U petak, 2.12. odrano je se predstavljanje međunarodnog izvjetaja EUMAP-a (EU Monitoring and Advocacy Program) Televizija u Europi: zakonodavstvo, javne politike i nezavisnost. Riječ je o rezultatima dvogodinjeg monitoringa stanja nezavisnosti televizije i razvoja javnih politika u tom području u Evropi, s posebnim naglaskom na ulogu javnih televizija. Monitoring se odvijao u 21 europskoj zemlji, uključujući Hrvatsku, a rezultati su objavljeni u knjizi koja uključuje izvjetaj za svaku zemlju, te preporuke.

With Indian language computing becoming simpler and the Internet gaining popularity throughout the country, groups dedicated to community participation in the development process are emerging. One such group is Chhattisgarh-Net, working in the Central Indian tribal-dominated state of Chhattisgarh. One of the founder members of Chhattisgarh-Net Shubhranshu Choudhary, a journalist, spoke to BhashaIndia about his experiences at using Hindi on their website. OneWorld South Asia helped Chhattisgarh-Net develop the local language website.
