31.08.2005 The “Professional Reporting on Education” training was developed by the Reuters Foundation for 11 BiH journalists that cover the field of education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The training was sponsored by the OSCE Mission to BiH Education Department and held in the town of Mostar 24-26 August, 2005.

30.08.2005 The government of Guatemala charges radio stations $28,000 for bandwidth, an inordinate sum for community radio stations that are operated by volunteers and typically have a two-to-five mile broadcast range. Consequently, bandwidth is rapidly being bought up by commercial radio stations that broadcast only in Spanish and do not address themes of concern to the Maya population. The remaining bandwidth is often usurped by wealthy evangelical interest groups.

29.08.2005 Non è stato trovato l’accordo sul testo di Costituzione che è stato presentato al Parlamento solo dagli sciiti e curdi. Il giudizio finale spetterà infatti ad un referendum popolare che si dovrà tenere entro metà ottobre. I sunniti hanno chiesto l'intervento dell'Onu e della Lega Araba per correggere “storture” che rendono “illegittima” la bozza ma hanno assicurato che non boicotteranno il processo democratico. E ancora a Baghdad dove un tecnico del suono dell'agenzia d'informazione Reuters è stato ucciso dal fuoco americano mentre consegnava alla polizia irachena le interviste relatoive a uno scontro armato. Stando a Reporter Senza Frontiere sono 66 gli operatori dei media uccisi in questa guerra all’Iraq, un bilancio più grave di quello del conflitto in Vietnam. Intanto il comitato organizzatore della Conferenza sulla resistenza irachena di Chianciano pubblica i nomi dei relatori dopo aver letto il comunicato del Ministero degli Esteri che ha negato i visti a quattro esponenti iracheni previsti tra i relatori.

26.08.2005 “Più che di un ‘disimpegno’ da Gaza è meglio parlare di una ‘ridistribuzione’ dei coloni”. Posizione fuori dal coro quella di Pax Christi Italia in visita in questi giorni sulle strade della Palestina. Molti dei coloni sgomberati da Gaza si stanno reinsediando in Cisgiordania, occupando altri territori palestinesi, mentre la "Striscia liberata" rimane sotto il controllo militare di Israele. “Gaza rimane sotto occupazione – dice monsignor Michel Sabbah, patriarca latino di Gerusalemme e presidente internazionale di Pax Christi – come una grande prigione a cielo aperto. Nel rapporto dell’organizzazione israeliana Betselem‘One Big Prison’ si denuncia che Gaza rimarrà non soltanto isolata da Israele, ma avrà serissime difficoltà a essere collegata con l’Egitto lungo il suo confine meridionale, unico possibile sbocco economico e commerciale. Ma soprattuto rimane staccata dalla Cisgiordania, in violazione di quello che prevedevano gli accordi di Oslo.

18.08.2005 Five journalists have gone to Africa to build the capacity of local media to report on human rights issues through the Young Professionals International (YPI) program of Foreign Affairs Canada (FAC). Through this program, the young Canadians will be in Nigeria, Uganda and Sierra Leone, and Ghana until March 15, 2006. On the ground, the participants will work for a media company or local media NGO for eight months. Their main task will be to develop and implement activities to train local journalists to report more effectively on human rights issues.

17.08.2005 Brillante, sferzante e con qualche malizia, spruzzata qua là sempre con garbo giornalistico, Ennio Remondino ha parlato di guerra, di informazione e di sistemi televisi all’incontro di “Dolomiti di Pace” dello scorso 10 agosto in Trentino. L’inviato per il Tg1 dal Kossovo, dall’Afghanistan e dal Golfo ha intrattenuto per oltre due ore le oltre cento persone che avevano affrontato le curve per raggiungere l’abitato di Luserna e il forte omonimo che lo domina, ricordo della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Una chiacchierata piacevole che se fosse stato per il pubblico non si sarebbe mai interrotta. Abbiamo pensato di riassumerla seguendo le domande principali.
