A regional network of free-lance journalists of Bulgaria and the former Yugoslav republics was established in Belgrade, at the regional meeting organized by the International Federation of Journalists IFJ and the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS).

The OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro is alarmed by recent activities of the Republican Broadcasting Agency (RBA) Council. While the OSCE acknowledges the fact that an independent regulatory body should be entrusted with the authority to allocate broadcasting licences, it calls on the Council to respect national law and international standards, as well as decisions of judicial bodies such as the Supreme Court.

The media campaign for the Montenegro Referendum was conducted correctly, but in the field work of the activists a number of inadequate actions were registered that could qualify as pressure on the voters, states the CEMI Centre for Monitoring in its Final Report on the Monitoring of Referendum Process. The Report provides a global evaluation of the overall referendum campaign, the work of the referendum bodies, as well as the conduct of the actual ballot day and the atmosphere after the results were announced.

Medijska organizacija jugoistočne Evrope (SEEMO), mrea urednika, medijskih funkcionera i vodećih novinara iz jugoistočne Evrope sa sjeditem u Beču je uasnuta zatvorskom kaznom na koju je osuđen novinar iz Kumanova, Makedonija. SEEMO je uputio otro javno pismo najviim institucijama vlasti u Makedoniji kojim se osuđuje ovakva kazna.

The Vienna-based South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), a network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI), is outraged by a prison sentence handed to a journalist in Kumanovo, Republic of Macedonia FYROM. SEEMO sent a strong public letter condemning the sentence to the highest offices of power in the Republic of Macedonia.

Last week, "Vecernji list" daily published an article on the recently arrested suspects of several armed robberies and brutal murders, which gives an interesting view of the motives of their brutality. The suspects are, namely, all HIV positive, a fact which, according to the daily, makes them insensitive to humanity and the value of human life, because of their iminent death. Such a comment provoked strong reaction from the Croatian Association for HIV (CAHIV).
