Last month, Donald Rumsfeld, who shook hands with Saddam Hussein in 1983, likened this man to Hitler. The Economist distrusts him, and fears he is taking Venezuela and his neighbours down the path of something related to communism. At home, opponents openly call him a dictator and yearn for his removal, while his enthralled supporters idolise him. He is Venezuelas first ever non-white president, Hugo Chavez.
