31.03.2004 La pobreza y la indigencia descendieron en el segundo semestre de 2003, acompañando la baja del desempleo y la recuperación de la economía. Ahora es pobre el 47,8% de la población urbana de la Argentina. En octubre de 2002 los pobres ascendían al 57,5%. La indigencia también se redujo, aunque aún es del 20,5%.

31.03.2004 La tasa de desocupación no ha dejado de caer desde octubre de 2002. En el último trimestre de 2003 fue de 14,5%. La creación de empleos acompaña el fuerte rebote de la economía, que el año pasado creció 8,7%. Pero los nuevos puestos son, en su mayoría, precarios. El 30,8% de la población económicamente activa tiene problemas de empleo y, si no fuera por el plan Jefes de Hogar, la desocupación aún sería de 19,7%.

30.03.2004 Les médicaments de première ligne utilisés aujourd'hui pour traiter la tuberculose ont été mis au point entre les années 1940 et 1960. Les médecins soignant les patients atteints de TB sont contraints de recourir à des tests diagnostiques et des médicaments obsolètes. Cependant, l'industrie pharmaceutique semble peu disposée à développer et commercialiser un nouveau médicament contre la TB destiné à un marché constitué essentiellement de patients à faible pouvoir d'achat. MSF appelle donc les gouvernements et l'Organisation mondiale de la santé à intervenir.

Toimeen on asiantuntijoiden mukaan tartuttava heti. Muuten kehitysmaat itse tarvitsevat vierastyövoimaa, kun hyvin koulutetut kansalaiset lähtevät leveämmän leivään perään ulkomaille.

La mostra apunta, per exemple, que si les dones rebessin la mateixa educació que els homes, la producció agrícola augmentaria un 15%. La campanya vol sensibilitzar sobre la desigualtat educativa que pateixen les dones al món.

26.03.2004 La ONG InteRed ha puesto en marcha la exposición itinerante Educar a una mujer es educar a un pueblo para sensibilizar sobre la importancia de la educación de la mujer en el desarrollo económico, social y sanitario de los países del Sur. La muestra apunta, por ejemplo, que si las mujeres recibieran la misma educación que los hombres, la producción agrícola aumentaría un 15%. La campaña pretende sensibilizar sobre la desigualdad educativa que sufren las mujeres en el mundo.

26.03.2004 The World Bank has denied criticism that its policies have limited the capacity of governments to provide adequate social services to people in developing countries. Addressing delegates at the biennial world assembly of CIVICUS, an umbrella body of civic organisations, in Botswana, Bank Vice President Ian Goldin noted that the institution was the largest single source of outside funding for education, health and the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
