31.10.2005 Multinational and Indian seed companies are paying Indian farmers who are producing their cotton seed almost 40%- too little to enable them to hire adults for the local minimum wage of Rs.52 (€1,-) instead of children. The companies are multinationals like Bayer, Monsanto and Syngenta but also Indian companies like Nuziveedu Seeds, Raasi Seeds and Ankur Seeds.

25.10.2005 One of the largest earthquakes in South Asia for more than a century has brought death and destruction to areas of north Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. It is estimated that more than 40,000 people have died, and over 2.5 million people are now homeless. Tearfund partners are responding to immediate needs in India and Pakistan, providing shelter, warm clothing, blankets and medical help. An emergency response team, previously based in Quetta, has moved up to the earthquake-affected areas in Pakistan.
