The World Bank should play a more central role of leadership in promoting universal access to reproductive health as a necessary, efficient and just means of achieving all the Millennium Development Goals, according to a new report from the Global Health Council.

Prvog dana dvodnevne konferencije "Izgradnja demokratije odozdo - iskustva sa zastupnistvom na Kosovu" u organizaciji Projekta zastupnistva za NVO sa Kosova (KNAP) na kojoj je učestvovao i kosovski premijer Bajram Kosumi, rečeno je da vlada visoko ceni saradnju sa nevladinim organizacijama kao partnerima u političkoj, ekonomskoj i posebno u oblasti upravljanja.

With the help of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Senegal is hoping to introduce more expensive but more effective drugs nationwide in a bid to improve the country's success in fighting malaria. An earlier 2003 programme was discontinued due to poor implementation.

The Bush administration announced in 2000 that it would channel U.S. foreign aid to well-governed developing countries through a mechanism called the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA). As the first awards were finally made last week, the Center for Global Development has launched a barometer to track the effectiveness and draw conclusions from the MCA.

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation, Canada's coalition to end global poverty, has responded to the budget deal negotiated between the governing Liberals and the opposition NDP. "With this deal, the NDP has pushed the Liberals closer to meeting Canada's international aid obligations," said CCIC President and CEO, Gerry Barr. Unfortunately, he said, "we're still falling short."

Paul Wolfowitz's announcement last week that Africa should be the world's top priority likely surprised many in the U.S. and abroad who know the U.S. official as a defense hawk with a laser-like focus on the Middle East.
