31.08.2004 En només dos anys, del 2001 al 2003, la xifra mundial d'orfes a causa de la Sida ha augmentat d'11,5 milions a 15 milions, i la majoria d'ells viuen a l'Àfrica. Aquesta és una de les conclusions d'aquest informe d'Unicef que recull les últimes estadístiques sobre el nombre estimat de menors de 18 anys que han quedats orfes per aquesta malaltia i altres causes. El document subratlla les necessitats canviants d'aquests nens a mesura que creixen i es converteixen en adolescents i fa una crida urgent al suport de les seves famílies i comunitats.

Bitter Chocolate
25.08.2004 Protests against the sexual abuse of children are getting louder in India. Most recently, two non-governmental organisations — ActionAid India Society and HAQ: Centre for Child Rights — launched a multi-city tour of a play highlighting the plight of sexually abused children. Adapted from a book by Pinki Virani, the play, titled Bitter Chocolate, portrays true stories of child sexual abuse.

24.08.2004 E' iniziata la XIII settimana di studio di Amici dei Bambini (Aibi) dedicata interamente al bambino e al suo diritto di essere figlio. Nei prossimi giorni si terrà il Convegno internazionale che verterà sul tema della chiusura degli istituti di accoglienza. Secondo i dati della Commissione per le adozioni internazionali crescono le adozioni, ma anche l'età dei bambini adottati. E un rapporto di Save the children avverte che le adozioni internazionali illegali di neonati stanno diventando nuove forme di sfruttamento e abuso dei bambini.
