Tulika Books was started as a children’s book publishing house in 1996. It has broken new ground in promoting reading as a habit among children in India. Large numbers of children in Burkina Faso and Mali are migrating in search of work in gold mining and domestic service. These extreme forms of exploitation damage boys’ and girls’ health, leaves them vulnerable to abuse, and prevents them from gaining an education.
