Abusi sui bambini
29.10.2007 "La violenza ai danni dei minori è una emergenza globale che riguarda indistintamente qualsiasi strato sociale e ogni paese del mondo comprese le nazioni ricche che tollerano abusi nelle mura domestiche come l’Italia": è quanto emerge dal seminario 'La violenza sui bambini e le bambine' promosso oggi a Roma da Save the Children in collaborazione con la Commissione Parlamentare per l’Infanzia. L'associazione chiede "un garante nazionale per l'infanzia e norme più severe per prevenire ed eliminare le violenze sui minori che si consumano soprattutto in famiglia, a scuola, negli ambienti di lavoro, ma anche un protocollo vincolante per le audizioni dei minori". Secondo il Rapprto dell'Onu, in Italia sarebbero 1 milione i bambini che assistono a episodi di violenza e maltrattamenti all’interno delle mura di casa.

19.10.2007 Uccisione o mutilazione di bambini che costituiscono 1/3 delle vittime di residuati bellici, arruolamento e utilizzo di minori soldato in 43 paesi, stupri e gravi abusi sessuali, rapimenti finalizzati all'arruolamento, allo sfruttamento sessuale e al lavoro forzato, sfollamento forzato che comporta spesso la morte per malattie e malnutrizione, detenzione illegale e negato accesso all'assistenza umanitaria: è il raccapricciante scenario che emerge dal nuovo rapporto redatto da Onu e Unicef. Ad incidere sono soprattutto i conflitti all'interno di singoli stati e a "bassa intensità" che sono divenuti la forma più diffusa di guerra e segnano un aumento dalle 30 guerre registrate nel 1996 alle 56 rilevate nel 2006. Ci sono progressi nella protezione dei bambini dai crimini di guerra, ma "molto deve essere ancora fatto per affrontare tutte le violazioni contro i bambini nei conflitti armati" - avverte l'Unicef.

18.10.2007 Nonostante i "significativi i progressi conseguiti nella lotta alla malaria", in Africa subsahariana la malattia uccide ogni anno almeno 800mila bambini sotto i 5 anni: lo rileva un nuovo rapporto presentato ieri dall'Unicef a nome della partnership "Roll Back Malaria" da cui emerge un quadro completo della lotta alla malaria nella regione. Nel mondo oltre 3 miliardi di persone vivono in aree malariche dove un milione di persone ogni anno perde la vita a causa della malattia. E' aumentata la fornitura di zanzariere e altri interventi sono stati incorporati con successo nei programmi di salute infantile e di assistenza: ma "occorrono più fondi per raggiungere gli obiettivi prefissati" - afferma l'Unicef.
