Oxfam is calling on G-7 finance ministers to revalue the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) 100 million ounce gold reserve at current market rate and provide funds for canceling poor countries’ multilateral debts. Describing the IMF’s gold stockpile as “absurdly undervalued,” the organization says any deal on debt must include substantial increases in money going to poor countries, and revaluing gold will enable this.

Allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse are becoming more rampant in peacekeeping missions even as the UN implements its “zero-tolerance” policy on sexual misconduct. The organization’s limited mandate over peacekeepers - - it can repatriate offenders, it cannot prosecute or carry out other disciplinary measures - - hampers its efforts to hold peacekeepers accountable for their actions.
