Unicef on vedonnut 80 miljoonan dollarin saamiseksi alueelle välittämänä hätäapuna, joka kohdistuisi ensisijaisesti lapsiin.

Sri Lanka has urged India and the international community to force the LTTE to come to the negotiation table to restore peace in the trouble torn island. The Sri Lanka Foreign Minister also asked India to use its relations with the EU to stop fund raising and other LTTE activities through the member countries.

Per chi non l’avesse già capito, la recente inchiesta de l’Espresso mette in chiaro come la missione in Iraq non sia una “missione di pace”. Il rapporto di 1 a 100 tra spese in aiuti e costi militari è la prova evidente dell’inganno subito dal parlamento e dal popolo italiano. Non solo: ma perché mai i militari dovrebbero occuparsi di aiuti umanitari e per la ricostruzione? Che senso ha affidare a truppe straniere, ambiguamente schierate all’interno di una forza occupante che ha illegalmente invaso un paese, il compito di costruire scuole o fognature? Per queste cose esistono le ONG, le Nazioni Unite, le imprese e, soprattutto, gli iracheni stessi. Cinquant’anni di cooperazione allo sviluppo e un secolo e mezzo di aiuto umanitario ci hanno insegnato ormai bene come si debbano fare certe cose, e se la stampa si impegnasse un po’ più seriamente ad informare i cittadini e i politici su come funzionano gli aiuti internazionali, probabilmente sarebbe stato molto difficile far passare questa manovra, che viola la Costituzione, espone il paese ad attacchi terroristici e ha portato alla morte inutile di trenta nostri connazionali. Non eroi, ma vittime di un raggiro.
