"In spite of Premier McGuinty's claims of spiraling health care costs and Ontario being shortchanged to the tune of $23 billion from federal coffers, the beast that ate the provincial budget isn't health care or equalization — it's tax cuts," said OAB Co-chair Hugh Mackenzie. The Harris-Eves cuts in personal income tax, corporate income tax, the Employer Health Tax and other miscellaneous tax cuts have reduced Ontario's fiscal capacity by $14.7 billion per year.

The U.S. Congress is working on a budget that could include deep cuts in basic programs for children and families. Tell Congress you're willing to pay your fair share in taxes, but not for a budget that gives the affluent more than their fair share while cutting food stamps, health care and child care assistance for kids and families, says Connect for Kids on April 12--"National Budget Call-in Day."

Claude Lamoureux threw a grenade into the cozy world of corporate Canada when he suggested Ottawa should require governance changes at Bombardier Inc., as a condition for partnering on the company's proposed new passenger jets. "First they make us disclose our bonuses, now they're telling us how to run our businesses," CEOs complained. "What's next? Workers owning the means of production?"

Much has been written about Pope John Paul II's conservative views on abortion, gay rights, and other social issues. But when it came to economics, he believed that the unimpeded free market tends to create immoral inequalities and he promoted full debt cancellation for poor nations. In short, he believed economic systems should serve all of humanity, not just the privileged few.

Yhdysvaltain apulaispuolustusministeri Paul Wolfowitz on vastikään nimitetty Maailmanpankin pääjohtajaksi.Wolfowitzia pidetään mm. Irakiin toteutetun hyökkäyksen yhtenä pääsuunnittelijana. Maan ystävien mukaan pääjohtajavalinta heijastelee Maailmanpankin tiukkoja siteitä Yhdysvaltoihin ja on jatkoa järjestön epäilyttävälle politiikalle.
