Tokom par posljednjih godina grad Durres pati od velike krize u sektoru zapošljavanja, a stanje se pogoršalo tokom par zadnjih mjeseci. Prema službenim statistikama ima 2 650 nezaposlenih u Durresu, a samo u Srpnju i Kolovozu ove godine dodatnih 1 700 osoba izgubilo je posao zbog zatvaranja nekih od kompanija.
