20.11.2007 The report, Up in Smoke, compiled by environmental groups, including Oxfam and Greenpeace, says rich countries must honour their commitments to renewable energy. India alone has the potential to provide 60% of its electricity using these sources by 2050. It also calls for rich countries to allow the transfer of green technologies to developing countries.

The exponential growth of private vehicles, particularly diesel ones, has defeated the gains from its earlier CNG drive when diesel buses in the city were phased out to check pollution.
