For all the filmmakers out there, you have until January 6 to finish up your short films (eight minutes or less) and submit them to the 2006 Media That Matters Film Festival. The festival brings together innovative, short films that address a wide variety of current social issues.

Nepal's oldest community radio station was shut down by government officials Sunday, and many other stations have switched to broadcasting "soft news." The move is making it difficult for the country's illiterate population to get news about last week's key agreement between Maoist rebels and the country's political parties, to which the king has not yet responded.

In his interview for EkoForum, Michael Schweres, President of the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ), stressed the access to good and trustworthy information remains the biggest problem for journalists reporting on environmental issues. This interview was made in late September 2005, in Pozega (Croatia), during the First International Forum of Environmental Journalists, organized by the Croatian Environmental Press Centre.

Reporters Without Borders today urged Commonwealth heads of government to see that people killing journalists because of their work were duly punished, so the Commonwealth could become “a true home of democracy and freedom.” Many journalists have been killed in the south Asian region simply for doing their duty.

The UK government has announced a new agreement with publishers to implement new recycling targets for the industry. Under the new standards, 50% of magazines will be recycled by 2007, rising to 70% by 2013.

Vesna Skare Ozbolt, Minister of Justice in the Croatian Government, announced last Sunday, November 20, that she will propose changes in the Criminal Code, which will erase slander and libel as criminal offence in all cases of public expression, including journalism, works of fiction, scientific works and other activities.

Kampanja 16 dana aktivizma se koristi u vidu organizacione strategije individua i/ili grupa diljem svijeta, koje zahtijevaju eliminaciju svih oblika nasilja nad ženama.
