Development Alternatives wins grant for cyber café project

Indian villager checks crop rates online

25.08.2003 Our partner Development Alternatives' "Hope Incubator Project" is one of the 15 projects that have won grants worth $600,000 under Samsungs DigitAll Hope 2003 programme. Development Alternatives plans to start a revolving fund that would be used to provide assistance to young entrepreneurs to start 48,000 cyber cafes in Indias rural areas.

New online and print journal on ICT4D from Indian NGO

23.08.2003 Our partner Centre For Spatial Database Management & Solutions (CSDMS) has launched i4d, a new bimonthly journal available both online and in print. The journal has information and communication technologies (ICTs) at its core and aims to allow access and reference at remote locations through its printed version. CSDMS is an NGO involved in developing the use of technologies like GIS, GPS and remote sensing in rural areas.

IPS creates Website on media, ICT issues

19.08.2003 Inter Press Service (IPS) has created a Website dedicated to media, information, communications and technology issues, which will display stories relating to these subjects ahead of and during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva (2003) and in Tunis (2005).

UNITeS launches WSIS section of Website

10.08.2003 The United Nations Information Technology Service (UNITeS), part of the UN Volunteers programme, has launched a new section on its Website, devoted to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and to promoting the involvement of volunteers as essential to the successful achievement of fair and inclusive information societies.
