"Chiediamo una equa soluzione della controversia che porti ad una bonifica ambientale pagata dalle imprese multinazionali, ad un risarcimento delle popolazioni locali per i danni subiti, ad una politica che consenta ai più poveri di beneficiare dello sfruttamento delle risorse e ad un rilascio di chi è stato ingiustamente arrestato". Cominicia così l'appello di p. Alex Zanotelli, Giuseppe De Marzo e Alessandro Marescotti per la liberazione dei tecnici rapiti in Nigeria. Il 7 dicembre 2006 sono stati rapiti in Nigeria Francesco Arena, Roberto Draghi, Cosma Russo e il libanese Imad Saliba, tecnici Eni che si occupavano dell'estrazione del gas naturale nell'area del delta del fiume Niger.Il rapimento è stato rivendicato dal MEND (Movement for the Emancipation of the Nigerian Delta). A un mese dal rapimento facciamo appello al governo italiano perché si attivi concretamente ed in modo efficace per la liberazione degli ostaggi.

Nyt on päätetty selvittää, miksi jotkut onnistuvat nousemaan köyhyydestä ja toiset eivät. Afrikan historian laajin tutkimus sosiaalisesta liikkuvuudesta alkaa tänä vuonna. Valtio on myöntänyt sille kolmen miljoonan euron rahoituksen.

The report also says children whose mothers are not educated are more likely to drop out from school and their learning ability is less. A Budget focused on education, knowledge and skills is what the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) wishes for this year. The CII would also like to see, in the forthcoming Budget, the government to exercise fiscal prudence, reduce embedded tax rates and outline a roadmap for the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) by 2010.
