The World Bank, as trustee of the Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF) has signed two agreements with two Indian companies to promote technologies that may help revolutionize the building material industry—one utilizes a more energy efficient kiln to produce burnt clay bricks, and the other replaces burnt clay brick with fly ash bricks which are manufactured without the use of thermal energy.

Mercoledì il Senato si pronuncerà sulle missioni militari internazionali ed in particolare sulla partecipazione italiana all'Isaf/Nato in Afghanistan. Le 7 Ong (Alisei, Aispo, Cesvi, Coopi, Cosv, Gvc, Intersos) dell'Associazione Ong italiane che operano in Afghanistan che costantemente si coordinano nell'ambito del gruppo "Cooperazione in contesti di guerra" confermano la necessità che sia tenuta distinta l'azione militare da quella civile e umanitaria nel paese. Le Ong operano infatti da sempre in piena autonomia e indipendenza, con proprie finalità e identità . "Chiediamo che sia fatta la massima chiarezza sul mandato dell'Isaf - afferma Sergio Marelli, presidente Associazione Ong italiane - e sulle sue regole di ingaggio al fine di assicurare che la legittima presenza multilaterale di stabilizzazione e sicurezza rimanga tale e non si trasformi in alcun caso in operazione di guerra".

Äänekäs joukko mielenosoittajia marssi maanantaina 17.7 Helsingissä protestina Israelin armeijan sotatoimia vastaan Libanonissa ja Gazassa. Pysäyttäkää sota-verkoston järjestämä marssi keräsi reilut kolmesataa ihmistä Helsingin kaduille. "Ainoa taho, joka voisi todella puuttua tilanteeseen on Yhdysvallat", toteaa Patsy Nakell, yksi mielenosoitukseen osallistunut.

Arviolta 230 000 perhettä on edelleen väliaikaissuojan tarpeessa 27. toukokuuta Jaavan saarella Indonesiassa tapahtuneen maanjäristyksen seurauksena. Vaikka tilanne alueella on edelleen vaikea, yhteisöt ovat positiivisia ja katsovat kohti tulevaisuutta. Perheiden yhteistyö toimii hyvin, alueella vierailevat avustustyöntekijät kertovat.
