Beyond the tourist havens of Buenos Aires and Patagonia, Argentina's economic fall-out is still visible: nearly 75% of children live in poverty and the political distrust--which cemented the economic collapse--continues as Kirchner’s administration is removed from the people. But in Tucumán, mothers team up to provide children with food and shelter--and alternatives to the gangs and drugs in their community.

Tehran mayor and president-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Sunday to spread Iran's oil money to the poor, end corruption, return to the roots of the 1979 Islamic revolution, and push Iran's nuclear-energy plans. He's been called Iran's Robin Hood by some, but critics portend a Talibanesque regime now that hard-line conservatives hold power throughout the government.

Each summer the Fraser Institute announces the arrival of “tax freedom day:” the day when Canadians allegedly stop “working for the government” and start “working for themselves.” According to Neil Brooks, “The concept of Tax Freedom Day is a gimmick designed to suggest that Canadians derive no benefit from the taxes they pay when nothing could be further from the truth. With their taxes, Canadian citizens buy their most valued goods and services: high-quality public schools, world-class universities, excellent medical services, public parks and libraries, safe streets, and livable cities.”
