Le nombre d’enfants malnutris a atteint un niveau anormalement élevé pour cette période de l’année. Cette situation déjà alarmante en janvier se dégrade rapidement. MSF appelle les autres acteurs de l’aide à se mobiliser.

Reports that the death rate of women in childbirth is on the rise in Nepal as the result of the conflict have prompted the United Nations to call for both sides to respect basic human rights. It is estimated that maternal deaths due to lack of access to health care outnumber those killed in the fighting.

L'épidémie de fièvre de Marburg continue de se propager dans la province de Uige en Angola. Le bilan officiel, au 11 avril, est de 203 morts pour 221 cas recensés. Depuis que des tests biologiques réalisés par l'OMS ont confirmé le 22 mars qu'il s'agissait bien de fièvre de Marburg, 114 nouveaux cas ont été identifiés, et 107 patients sont morts.

Durante mucho tiempo, solamente había un país en Latinoamérica que ofrecía atención sanitaria gratuita a sus ciudadanos. Ahora hay dos. Los gobiernos de ambos países consideran que la atención sanitaria es un derecho humano básico. Así que Cuba, rica en atención sanitaria, y Venezuela, rica en petróleo, han comenzado un trueque en beneficio de la población de ambos países. Esto podría considerarse como un ejemplo histórico de suma importancia sobre los beneficios del mercado libre. ¿Quién podría estar en contra?

La Commissione europea ha approvato un pacchetto di tre comunicazioni a sostegno degli Obiettivi di sviluppo del millennio, allo scopo di ridare slancio al processo, attraverso l’aumento del volume effettivo degli aiuti allo sviluppo erogati dalla Commissione e dagli stati dell’Ue. Secondo il Commissario europeo allo sviluppo Louis Michel, queste proposte - se supportate dal Consiglio europeo e dal parlamento europeo - conferirebbero all’Ue, già di fatto al primo posto nella classifica mondiale dei donatori (più del 50% dell’assistenza ufficiale per gli aiuto allo sviluppo), un ruolo politico trainante, e la condurrebbero sulla buona strada per raggiungere entro il 2015 l’obiettivo dello 0,7% del Pil da destinare agli Aiuti allo sviluppo.
