At the current rate of decline in the under-5 Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), India is not likely to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of bringing down the IMR to 40 per 1,000 live births for the year 2015, according to a UNICEF report.

With more than 90 million people living in urban poor settlements, the rate of urban poverty in India is staggering. These numbers are expected to rise and if the predictions are correct, then in the next 25 years the number of urban poor could end up in excess of 200 million increasing the health concerns of these urban poor more than ever before.

Smokers of "light" and "low tar" cigarettes are suing tobacco companies, accusing them of fraud, and are seeking up to $200 billion in damages.
