La compagnia Anglo Platinum, che controlla il 40% della produzione mondiale di platino, apre nuove miniere sudafricane nella regione di Limpopo facendo perdere la terra e i principali mezzi di sostentamento a migliaia di persone denuncia un rapporto di ActionAid. "I dislocati in nuovi insediamenti preparati dall’azienda ricevono soltanto minime compensazioni con poche possibilità di ricominciare a condurre la propria vita". Ieri, alla presentazione del rapporto di ActionAid erano presenti anche i rappresentanti della Anglo Platinum che hanno dichiarato che i risarcimenti sarebbero adeguati, mentre non hanno risposto alle accuse di contaminazione e di aver pagato le forze dell’ordine affinché agissero a loro favore e a quelle di aver effettuato un trasferimento forzato delle popolazioni tagliando acqua e elettricità nei villaggi.
