Amnesty International Hrvatske jučer je na konferenciji za novinare u Zagrebu predstavio svoj redovni godišnji zvještaj “Stanje ljudskih prava u svijetu” za 2005. godinu koji na više od 300 stranica obuhvaća 150 država . Vezano uz stanje u Hrvatskoj tajnik Ureda AIH Edin Tuzlak posebno je upozorio na tri problematična područja: procesuiranje za ratne zločine; bilateralni sporazum Hrvatske i SAD o neizručivanju američkih državljana stalnom Međunarodnom kaznennom sudu; te tajna slijetanja CIA-inih aviona sa osumnjičenicima za terorizam na hrvatski teritorij.

"I governi, da soli e collettivamente, hanno paralizzato le istituzioni internazionali, dilapidato risorse pubbliche per perseguire obiettivi di sicurezza limitati e di corto respiro, sacrificato valori in nome della “guerra al terrore” e chiuso gli occhi di fronte a violazioni dei diritti umani su scala massiccia. La conseguenza è che il mondo ha pagato un prezzo elevato, in termini di erosione dei principi fondamentali e di enormi danni arrecati alla vita e al benessere della gente comune". Non usa mezzi termini il Rapporto annuale di Amnesty International, presentato ieri a Roma. E punta il dito contro gli Usa che "sfidando il divieto assoluto di tortura e di maltrattamenti" hanno "subappaltato queste pratiche mediante il trasferimento di prigionieri in paesi come Arabia Saudita, Egitto, Giordania, Marocco e Siria”. Ma anche contro i governi di diversi Paesi europei colpevolmente assenti con omissioni e reticenze sul programma di trasferimenti illegali perpetuati dalla Cia. Mentre "la discontinua attenzione e la flebile azione dell'Onu e dell’Unione Africana si sono dimostrate pateticamente inadeguate rispetto a quanto occorreva fare nel Darfur, la regione del Sudan in cui sono stati commessi crimini contro l’umanità ad opera di tutte le parti coinvolte in un conflitto che ha causato migliaia di morti".

Viime vuosi osoittautui ihmisoikeuksien kannalta pettymykseksi keskeisten hallitusten petettyä lupauksensa. Kansalaisten aktiivisuus ihmisoikeuksien toteuttamiseksi sen sijaan lisääntyi, toteaa Amnesty Internatinal vuosiraportissaan. Terrorismin vastaisen sodan yhä kärjistyessä, tulisi painopiste suunnata kansallisista eduista ihmisten etuihin, painotti järjestön pääsihteeri.

Africa Freedom day which falls on 25th May, is a day in which as Africans we observe the creation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and pay tribute to the Heads of State, who through a common vision of unity, decided to seek a joint African solution to the dichotomy facing Africa in the 1960s.

Ihmisoikeusliiton mukaan Suomeen tulisi perustaa kansallinen, riippumaton ihmisoikeusinstituutio Suomen perus- ja ihmisoikeuspolitiikan kehittämiseksi. Instituution tehtäviin kuuluisivat muun muassa ihmis- ja perusoikeuksista kouluttaminen, tiedottaminen, säännöllinen raportointi Suomen ihmisoikeustilanteesta sekä ihmisoikeuksiin liittyvien lausuntojen antaminen.

Thousands of children are still displaced from their homes following the recent violence in Trincomalee District, in which six children were killed and others injured or severely traumatized.

In his message on the International Day of Families, Secretary-General Kofi Annan noted recent profound transformations in families, many of whom call into question the structure of society as we know it; they require us to work together to adapt and to shape public policy in a way that addresses the needs of families, to ensure that basic services are provided to all citizens irrespective of their family situation.
