The Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) is organizing the International Festival on Gender and Sexuality: Identities and Spaces at the Stein Auditorium, Indian Habitat Center, Delhi, India from 12th to 15th May 2007. This event, in collaboration with Prasar Bharti Corporation, the MacArthur Foundation, UNESCO and India Habitat Center, aims to facilitate an effective environment for the integration of gender and sexuality.

Nonostante l’adozione di significative riforme in tema di pena di morte e di nuove regole per i giornalisti stranieri, Amnesty International denuncia scarsi miglioramenti per i diritti umani in altri ambiti collegati alle Olimpiadi, in un contesto di crescente repressione nei confronti degli attivisti per i diritti umani e dei giornalisti locali. In vista dei Giochi olimpici del 2008, Amnesty International segnala tra l’altro l’aumento dell’uso della detenzione senza processo almeno nella capitale Pechino. Amnesty ha trasmesso il proprio rapporto di valutazione al governo di Pechino e al Comitato olimpico internazionale (Cio), evidenziando come i temi trattati siano strettamente collegati all’organizzazione delle Olimpiadi e ai principi fondamentali della Carta olimpica, in particolare la “salvaguardia della dignità umana”.

Uruguayan Vice President Rodolfo Nin Novoa inaugurated a meeting of Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP), a worldwide coalition of civil society organisations lobbying governments to eradicate poverty, with a call to the campaign to help bring down poverty and a promise to halve Uruguayan poverty levels by 2015.

Economic development is closely associated with poverty reduction in many countries. It is also believed that increased income levels lead to improved health, education and living standards. However, development experiences show that there is no automatic link between increased per capita income and reduction in poverty levels.

Pese al miedo, hicieron presencia en las calles. Salieron portando banderas estadounidenses, mexicanas y de todo el mundo. “¡No somos ilegales, somos seres humanos!”. Eran miles exigiendo en todo el país una reforma migratoria, un camino a la legalización, alto a las redadas y a las deportaciones.

A first ever nation wide study on child abuse by the government and CSOs – Prayas and Save the Children – admits that two-thirds of children in India are physically abused while more than half have faced some form of sexual abuse. UNESCO, on the occasion of Global Action Week (April 23-29) in favour of Education for All, has launched a report titled "Education under Attack". Based on research undertaken by U.K-based journalist and education specialist Brendan O'Malley, the report highlights the violent attacks on educational systems that are depriving children of their right to education. The report reveals that 40% of the world's 77 million out-of-school children live in conflict-affected countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Columbia.
