The Planning Commission of India has made a provision of Rs 100 crores for setting up 20 Indian Institute of Information Technology in various parts of the country. The government also promises to ensure broadband accessibility to almost every citizen in countryside, covering 97% of its geographical area by 2012.

The Internet is set to play a critical role in poverty eradication efforts by providing unprecedented access to knowledge to the poor billions, according to experts gathered at a global knowledge conference. Hosted by the Global Knowledge Partnership, a multi-stakeholder platform by and for various sectors, the summit was a celebration of ten years of partnerships and the sharing of knowledge for the common goal of ICTs for development.

Non siamo mai stati teneri con le politiche dello zio Sam nella nostra “first life”. Altra cosa sembra accadere in “second life”. A Bali (Indonesia), dove si è tenuta la Conferenza delle Nazioni Unite sul Clima a Bali (UNFCCC), la rete OneWorld ed il rappresentante del Congresso USA dialogano. Ne danno notizia i media più autorevoli, dal Washington Post alla CNN. Il Presidente del Comitato ristretto sulle Energie Alternative e del Riscaldamento Globale, il congressista Democratico del Massachusetts, Edward Markey, si è unito infatti all’iniziativa 'Virtual Bali' di OneWorld.net per partecipare alle trattative sul cambio climatico delle Nazioni Unite. È intervenuto, usando una versione animata in 3 dimensioni di sé stesso (un “avatar”). Markey ha cercato con tale iniziativa di dar coerenza al suo intervento risparmiando la quota parte di circa 5.36 tonnellate di emissioni di CO2 che corrisponde al viaggio aereo tra Washington e Bali. L'Onu ha elogiato la decisione di un comitato del Senato Usa di tagliare le emissioni di gas serra nello stesso momento in cui la Casa Bianca ribadiva la sua opposizione ai tetti di emissione. di Fabio Pipinato

"Il notiziario in arabo - che va affiancarsi quelli in italiano, francese, inglese e spagnolo - intende costituire un ulteriore strumento per rafforzare la volontà di dialogo interculturale e interreligioso e per favorire quell'alleanza di civiltà di cui il Mediterraneo è stato spesso impareggiabile crogiuolo" - ha spiegato il direttore della Misna, Pietro Mariano Benni. Curata da redattori e traduttori di lingua araba e con significative esperienze di lavoro giornalistico in paesi arabi, la pagina intende essere utile anche ai tanti immigrati originari del mondo arabo presenti nel nord del mondo.
