Maailmassa kuolee vuodessa yli puoli miljoonaa naista raskauden komplikaatioihin. Kunnon sairaala – ja kyyti sinne – pelastaisi monen. Raskaus ja synnyttäminen ovat yhä yksi suurimmista riskeistä naisten terveydelle ja hengelle. Niihin liittyvät ongelmat ovat syynä joka neljänteen hedelmällisessä iässä olevan naisen kuolemaan maailmassa.

Suomen opettajiksi opiskelevien liitto SOOL vaatii, että kansainvälisyyskasvatuksen roolia opettajankoulutuksessa lisätään. Kansainvälisyyskasvatuksen asema suomalaisessa opettajankoulutuksessa on liiton mukaan tällä hetkellä lähes olematon.

As many as child labourers have been identified in the district since the District Child Labour Project Society started functioning in 2001. Of them, 89 have been rehabilitated, according to U. Chandravathi, Director of the District Child Labour Project Society.

Tempauksella pyrittiin Guinnessin ennätysten kirjaan, ja tavoite saavutettiin.

The ban on employing children in restaurants, roadside eateries, hotels, and tea shops or as domestic labour, announced by the Government in August, has recently come into effect. Those who violate the ban will be fined and also face a prison term up to two years. This is a welcome move focussing on areas where child labour is rampant and where the exploitation of children is shockingly high.

The boat may be rising but it’s not lifting everyone. Economic growth might have been spectacular since 1993 — that is, post economic reforms — but it seems to have trickled down rather slowly. A soon-to-be-released official report has estimated that poverty declined by a mere 0.74% during the 11-year period ended 2004-05.

The people of Madhya Pradesh have topped the world in creating a new Guinness World Record. A whopping 3.3 million residents of the state joined the "Stand Up Against Poverty" event this week, which is the largest figure from a single region across the world.

The Bihar government is eagerly waiting to know whether the norms on nursery admission as brought into place in New Delhi, would apply to the states as well. For, the norms put down by a Delhi High Court-appointed committee headed by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairman Ashok Ganguly spell out a selection system which is completely in conflict with the Common School System adopted by Bihar which believes in equal access to education.
