India has said it will give Nepal 10 billion rupees ($218m, £118m) in aid, most of it to be spent on development. The funds will be used to help build or upgrade roads, railways, an oil pipeline and an airport, a joint Indo-Nepalese statement said.

In occasione dell'apertura ieri del meeting dei ministri delle Finanze dei paesi del G8 a San Pietroburgo, in vista del Summit del 15 - 17 luglio prossimi, per la definizione della sostenibilità finanziaria delle scelte politiche internazionali, la Focsiv chiede ai governi del G8 la continuità con le decisioni assunte allo scorso G8 di Gleneagles, che ha stabilito la cancellazione del debito per 18 paesi più indebitati. "Chiediamo al Governo italiano di rispettare gli impegni assunti e di fare pressione sulla presidenza russa del prossimo G8 di San Pietroburgo perchè i temi dello sviluppo, praticamente assenti dall'agenda russa, trovino un posto degno, proseguendo la strada iniziata con lo scorso G8" - afferma Sergio Marelli, direttore di Volontari nel mondo-Focsiv. "Torniamo a chiedere in questa importante scadenza che lo sviluppo sia sempre presente nelle agende internazionali e che gli Stati ricordino gli impegni presi con la firma della Dichiarazione del Millennio, con la quale si sono impegnati ad adottare politiche che sostengano lo sviluppo dei paesi più poveri e a dimezzare la fame entro il 2015".
