20.12.2006 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), IBM and Oracle today announced a joint research initiative to help Asia-Pacific countries share and create strategies, blueprints and policies for adopting the right blend of open standards and technology services. The goal will be for more countries to develop universally compatible applications and networks to make internal and external government services and transactions more automatic, affordable and efficient.

11.12.2006 The 'We Can' campaign that is a South Asian campaign to end violence against women is holding a national meet in the eastern Indian city of Bhubaneshwar. The National Change Maker Assembly is being attended by nearly 300 partners and will disseminate information on the campaign and highlight issues relating to violence against women.

Mobile library in Zimbabwe
06.12.2006 The first free, grassroots, completely online course devoted to teaching librarians about social software and how to use it in their libraries. The course was developed to provide a free, comprehensive, and social online learning opportunity for librarians who do not otherwise have access to conferences or continuing education and is limited to 40 people. Application deadline is December 1, 2006 and the course lasts from Feb 12, 2007 till March 17, 2007.

04.12.2006 Nobel Prize Laureate and Managing Director of Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammad Yunus, announced at the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 opening ceremony at Hong Kong that Grameen will team up the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other partners, including Cisco Systems, QUALCOMM and a newly formed consortium, Enclusion, to launch a virtual, global 'ICT Empowerment Network' as part of their collaboration through the Connect the World initiative.
