07.11.2005 Assisted by UNESCO, three womenÂ’s journalism organisations in the Democratic Republic of Congo recently hosted a workshop on reinforcing professional capacities and the treatment of information during election periods.

17.07.2003 One of the few independent radio stations in eastern DRC, Radio Maendeleo has been allowed to resume broadcast a few days prior to the reunification of the country. Radio Maendeleo was shut down in December 2002 for allegedly broadcasting news with political content.

25.03.2003 Responding to a request from the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has launched a rural radio station in Mbanza-Ngungu, in the province of Bas-Congo. The radio aims to provide information relevant to the needs of rural communities.

04.03.2003 With one of Africa's largest conflicts ending slowly, large parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo are beginning to return to a normal life. The growing peace has opened up a considerable boom in telecommunications, largely of the mobile variety.

09.12.2002 The rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD-Goma)have closed down a radio station based in Bukavu, South Kivu after it broadcast a programme criticising the rebel authorities' introduction of compulsory number plates for all vehicles.

30.05.2002 Satellite images are being used to check the situation of gorillas in Congo, where tens of thousands of refugees have been damaging the habitat of the primates.
